Sift Tutorial Audio
Dry sift is a mechanical separation of trichomes using screens and static. It’s an ancient form of making extract, with some of the highest grade medicine being produced this way. It’s one of the cheapest and cleanest ways to make extract.
Buds are broken over a large, 250 micron screen which filters large contaminants, meanwhile the oil containing heads fall through the screen onto the next screen, of smaller micron, around 160. This is another filtering screen, and more contaminant(stalks, leaf, etc) are cleaned out. The precious heads fall through onto the 67 micron screen. Much like water hash production, in that there is filtration at the higher microns and capture in the lower.
On this 67 micron micron screen is where further refinement happens. More contaminant is broken up and falls through the 67 micron holes while the heads stay on top of the screen and become charged by carding and sifting. A latex paint brush will capture the positively charged contaminants, and you can brush this aside. Then use a glove.
Create positive charge on a paint roller or DVD with parchment or nitrile glove.
You can also use a clean nitrile glove on your hand.
Below 75*F. Dry conditions best, lower than 40 % relative humidity.
